Chrysler LLC, the U.S. third largest car maker, has no plan to withdraw from its Chinese joint venture with Daimler AG and Beijing Automotive Industry Co, Beijing Benz Daimler Chrysler Automotive Co Ltd (BBDC), as it aims to speed up its expansion in the country’s sizzling auto market and to catch up with rivals, according to an senior executive at Chrysler.
“BBDC remains exactly the same as it was before the separation of Chrysler and Daimler,” said Philip F. Murtaugh, CEO of Chrysler’s Asian operations, clarifying media speculation that the U.S. automaker would quit BBDC after separation with Daimler.
Founded in 2004, BBDC is principally engaged in production of Mercedes-Benz E-class and C-class luxury sedans as well as Chrysler 300C and Chrysler Borui sedans.
In addition, Chrysler is still in talks with Chery Automotive Co Ltd, one of China’s largest auto manufacturers, to launch a JV, in a bid to enhance its development in the small car market, sources said.
