China’s Chongqing Changan Auto April vehicle sales 17,306 units

BEIJING — Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd (SZA 000625; SZB 200625) said it sold 17,306 vehicles in April, with production 24,644 units.

In a statement filed with the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, the company said that Changan Ford Mazda Automobile Co Ltd, its joint venture with Ford Motor Co, produced 21,047 vehicles in April with sales of 19,462 units.

Chongqing Changan Suzuki, its 51 pct-owned joint venture with Suzuki Motor, sold 10,550 vehicles last month on production of 14,499 units.

Chongqing Changan Automobile, the listed arm of China’s fourth-largest automaker Changan Automotive Group, did not provide comparative figures.

GKN Driveline plans to expand major production facility in China

Beijing - GKN Driveline plans to open a major new production facility in Wuhan, China, next year.

Haixiang Wang, business development director for GKN Group — China, said the company will build a 44,000-square-metre plant scheduled to open during the first half of 2009.

Speaking at recent press briefings in Beijing, Wang said the Shanghai GKN (SDS) facility in Wuhan initially will supply driveshafts for Dongfeng and Dongfeng’s joint-venture programmes with Honda and Citroen. Expected to provide more than 600 jobs, the plant will have an annual production capacity of more than 1,000,000 driveshafts.

The company also showcased technology from its 10 existing Chinese production facilities during the recent Beijing International Auto Show (April 20-28).

The first major European automotive supplier to invest in China, GKN is the country’s leading producer of driveline components. GKN Driveline currently has automotive manufacturing operations in Kangqiao, Zhoupu and Shenjiang in Pudong, Shanghai, as well as plants in Chongqing and Jilin. China Auto Parts Industry Report, 2007-2008

In 2007, China national macro-economy continued to maintain a rapid growth momentum. A further increase of residents’ income and price cut of passenger vehicles stimulated consumption demand to a great extent. Influenced by the factor, the auto industry continued to keep the good momentum of development recorded in the previous year. The year of 2007 witnessed a new record high in both production and consumption of auto, with auto production and consumption reaching 8.88 million units and 8.79 million units respectively.Rapid development of China’s auto industry has provided a broad space for auto parts industry. In recent years, China’s auto parts industry has made a great progress and some innovative auto parts producers have grown up rapidly, fully demonstrating the vitality of self-brand producers of auto parts, such as, Wanxiang Group, Shaanxi Fast, Fuyao Glass, Xinyi Glass and Nanjing Aotecar.
With the fast development of auto parts production base in Changchun, capital of Jilin province, Shiyan, a city in Hubei province, Wuhu, a city in Anhui province, Huadu, a city in Guangdong province and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Bohai Economic Circle, auto parts industry clusters and regional economic development have undoubtedly become the new hot spots in the recent years. According to incomplete statistics, China has around 1,000 auto parts based industrial parks across the country and among them 100 parks are key regional clusters or development zones.

China’s export of auto parts reached CNY14.5 billion in 2007. International auto giants have become more and more confident of the quality of China’s auto parts. Sales revenue of China’s auto parts producers reached CNY403.5 billion in 2006. It is estimated that the output value of China’s auto parts is expected to reach CNY800 billion in 2010.
