Porsche North American rally teams torture-test the 2008 Cayenne Transsyberia as they prepare to compete in the world’s toughest rally

ALÈS, FRANCE, May 16, 2008 – The cool, still air in an abandoned coal mine in the south of France echoes to the sound of a Porsche V8 at full song. Every few minutes the source of the noise, a 2008 Cayenne Transsyberia test mule, blasts into view briefly, only to turn around and go roaring off again into the woods. Its sides are streaked with inky, black mud, kicked up by its huge tires while testing equipment mounted on the car gathers data that will later be analyzed by engineers from Porsche’s Motorsports department in Weissach. Skoda Auto’s sales up more than 20% in April

Skoda Auto’s sales grew in all regions of its presence in April. The total sales reached 63,726 Skoda vehicles, 23.3% more as compared with the same period of last year. Also compared with last year, the cumulative sales over the period January - April 2008 grew by 17.7 %, reaching 237,200 vehicles.

The fastest-growing markets over the first four months of this year are Russia (14,231 vehicles, + 75.3%), India (6,396 vehicles, 50.4%) and China (22,032 vehicles, start-up period).

Available in all equipment levels for the first time in April, the new Skoda Fabia Combi has built a good position in worldwide markets. With 9,623 vehicles, the sales of the new model are 24.5% higher than those of its predecessor. The April sales of the short Fabia reached 13,267 vehicles, 25.8% more than in the same period of last year.

The best selling model is the Skoda Octavia with 25,475 vehicles (+42.9 % as compared with April of last year). The sales volume of Skoda Octavia Tour is 7,500 vehicles (+16.3 % as compared with April of last year).

“We are very happy about the positive sales trends, especially as we are now waiting for the launch of the new Superb that is soon going to get to customers in all major markets,” said Fred Kappler, BOD Member responsible for sales and marketing. “We are mainly growing in new markets, i.e., Russia, China and India. These countries accounted for eleven percent of Skoda Auto’s total sales in 2007. Considering the first four months of this year, the trend is likely to continue in 2008.”

Tata Motors announces BOD meeting

A meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Limited will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at the Registered Office of the Company to consider the Audited Annual Accounts and the dividend, if any, for the year ended March 31, 2008.

Tata Motors is India’s largest automobile company, with revenues of US$ 7.2 billion in 2006-07. With over 4 million Tata vehicles plying in India, it is the leader in commercial vehicles and the second largest in passenger vehicles. It is also the world’s fifth largest medium and heavy truck manufacturer and the second largest heavy bus manufacturer. Tata cars, buses and trucks are being marketed in several countries in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, South East Asia and South America. Tata Motors and Fiat Auto have formed an industrial joint venture in India to manufacture passenger cars, engines and transmissions for the Indian and overseas markets; the company also distributes Fiat-branded cars in India. Tata Motors’ international footprint include Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Co. Ltd. in South Korea; Hispano Carrocera, a bus and coach manufacturer of Spain in which the company has a 21% stake; a joint venture with Marcopolo, the Brazil-based body-builder of buses and coaches; and a joint venture with Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant Company of Thailand to manufacture and market pickup vehicles in Thailand. Tata Motors has research centres in India, the UK, and in its subsidiary and associate companies in South Korea and Spain.
